The Seven Theses of Monster Theory are:

  1. The Monster's Body is a Cultural Body
  2. The Monster Always Escapes
  3. The Monster is the Harbinger of Category Crisis
  4. The Monster Dwells at the Gates of Difference
  5. The Monster Polices the Borders of the Possible
  6. Fear of the Monster is Really a Kind of Desire
  7. The Monster Stands at the Threshold...of Becoming
This piece is a study of the theses as they relate to mainstream cultural anxieties about queer people. Anxieties related to bodily autonomy and the fluidity or non-reality of the categories "respectable" people exist in. The fear-turned-love of knowing what you really want, and tearing the illusion apart to become it.
